Hey there to my two readers and significant spambots!
Well I had myself a good day yesterday (20th March 2010) although my day did start off with awaking early to spend some time scratching my head in wonder as to which group of con-artists and scammers were least likely to screw over the state during the next few years, yes we had an election.
Anyway that out the way, the good part was spending a significant portion of the day with the lovely Angie Baxter doing a basics & children’s/family photography workshop. I will say I was quite outnumbered 19 people attended, 17 lovely ladies so I can’t complain there really
The workshop was great, started off with the basics, most of which I do have a grip on, though it was great to hear it explained in different manner and bit of refresher Angie throughout the rest of the workshop would randomly call out different ISO/Shutter/Aperture settings and everybody would scramble to change them, education through repetition, a great way to learn the more technical or ‘hard techniques’ (Thanks to Shutters Inc .for the terminology) to make it a natural unthinking action, definitely something I need to get more practice in although all settings on my Canon 50D are easily accessible from the screen, I found out (yah I know RTFM!) how to quickly change them without having to go there, yay a new time saver!
Now the stuff that I most appreciated were the hint, tips & examples on the ’soft techniques’ or the more creative and artistic process’ of taking a photo, thoughts and considerations of feel, mood, light, colour & perspective. Stories or Explanations if you prefer on how certain images had been put together, looking for the light and catch, rearranging peoples houses to get the best shot were great, the more I re-run the explanations and exercises through my head the more things I find and pick out.
A great day and would recommend any to anyone that has purchased a DSLR and wanting to get a grip on what all this photography thing is all about.
Now don’t have a heart-attack, I realise this is 2 posts in only a few days.
Was looking at the site/blog and decided I didn’t much like the look or the galleries as they were so have spent the last few days messing around with settings and different themes trying to find something I liked better, there are still some tweaks and changes to come but I am especially happy with the new galleries I have set-up using SimpleViwer-2 from The Turning Gate as I can update them directly from Adobe Lightroom.
A few new pictures, a few older ones with a bit of work over.
I’ve also applied to get myself a passport and will be heading off the south island of New Zealand in late April, I will be spending a week doing a photography Workshop with Shelton Muller, guest trainer Mike Hollman and the Creative Photo Workshops gang. I am Very much looking forward to it, my first real out-of-the-country holiday and the change to learn from the Guru Shelton, given I have Melbournite friends who have done his workshops and gone from good photographers to fantastic photographers with all the work they want, I’m confidant this will be a great trip. Now to book some flights.
